English cricketer Ben Duckett has announced his formal withdrawal from the upcoming IPL 2026 season to focus on his national duties. In a personal statement, Duckett explained that preserving his England career is currently his primary professional objective.
The 31-year-old batter admitted that opting out of the world’s most lucrative cricket league was an incredibly tough choice to make. He offered a sincere apology to his teammates at Delhi Capitals, confirming that he would not join them.
Duckett emphasized that after much reflection, he believes this move is the best possible step for his long-term career stability. Given his current age, he acknowledged that he might never receive another opportunity to play in the IPL.
According to sports reports, Duckett withdrew his contract with Delhi Capitals to work on restoring his batting form for international matches. He was originally picked up by the franchise during the December auction for 2 crore Indian rupees.
Under the current tournament regulations, this late withdrawal carries a significant penalty for the English player’s future participation. Consequently, Ben Duckett will now be barred from participating in any IPL season until the year 2029.
This was the first time Duckett had been selected by an IPL franchise, making the sacrifice even more notable for the cricket community. His decision highlights the ongoing tension between lucrative T20 leagues and the prestige of representing one’s country.
