Xiaomi has officially confirmed that the Xiaomi 18 Pro series will launch in China later this month. The company is also teasing new functionality for the phones’ rear display. In a teaser shared on Weibo, Xiaomi showed the secondary screen displaying the word “Generating.” This suggests the company may be preparing AI-generated content for the rear panel.
Rear Screen Could Get AI Features
The teaser raises the possibility that the rear display will do more than show wallpapers, widgets and shortcuts. Xiaomi has not explained the feature yet, but says additional details will arrive tomorrow. The company also shared usage figures explaining why it keeps investing in this feature. According to Xiaomi, users interacted with app cards on the Xiaomi 17 Pro’s rear screen more than 4 million times per day. Meanwhile, over 3.5 million wallpapers were added to the display daily. Xiaomi also expanded the previous generation’s rear-screen features after launch, adding live wallpapers and interactive tools.
Familiar Design With Leica Cameras
The official teaser confirms that the Xiaomi 18 Pro retains a familiar horizontal camera module with a Leica-branded triple-camera setup. The rear display occupies most of the camera island, keeping the overall appearance close to the Xiaomi 17 Pro. However, tipster Digital Chat Station claims Xiaomi has made smaller refinements. These include thinner bezels around the rear display and a possible change to the front punch-hole camera position. The phone is also said to include a new physical button on the frame.
Privacy Display Expected
Earlier leaks suggested Xiaomi could increase the size of the secondary display and introduce a new privacy mode. Reports have compared this feature to privacy-display technology designed to limit how easily people beside the user can view sensitive content. Still, Xiaomi has not yet confirmed those details. With the Xiaomi 18 Pro series now officially scheduled to launch this month, more information about its cameras, rear display and AI features should arrive ahead of the full announcement.
