Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to protecting Chinese nationals, calling their security the country’s highest priority. Speaking at the Pakistan-China Pharmaceutical and Healthcare B2B Investment Conference in Islamabad, he said the government would take every possible step to ensure the safety of Chinese citizens working in Pakistan. His remarks came as Pakistani and Chinese companies signed investment agreements worth nearly $440 million.
The newly signed agreements cover the healthcare, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical sectors. Shehbaz said these investments would soon turn into practical projects that strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries. He added that the agreements represent another important milestone in advancing the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC 2.0).
The prime minister described his recent visit to China as highly successful and praised Beijing as one of Pakistan’s most reliable and trusted partners. He said China has consistently supported Pakistan during challenging times and remains a key contributor to the country’s economic development. He expressed confidence that bilateral cooperation would continue expanding across multiple sectors.
Shehbaz noted that China invested more than $30 billion during the first phase of CPEC. He called it the largest foreign investment portfolio in Pakistan’s history and said both countries remain committed to building stronger economic ties. He also highlighted the growing opportunities for future collaboration in trade, industry, and technology.
The prime minister reiterated that the government considers the security of Chinese nationals a top national priority. He said authorities would continue enhancing protection for Chinese workers, businesses, and development projects across the country. He stressed that a secure environment remains essential for attracting foreign investment and ensuring the timely completion of strategic projects.
Pakistan has increased security around Chinese projects following recent terrorist threats and attacks, particularly in Balochistan. Authorities have strengthened protective measures for Chinese personnel and key infrastructure to safeguard ongoing investments. The government believes stronger security and deeper economic cooperation will further reinforce the longstanding partnership between Pakistan and China.
