Punjab Section 144 restrictions have come into force across the province for 60 days, banning swimming, bathing, and unauthorized boating at rivers, canals, dams, lakes, and other water bodies during the monsoon season. The Punjab Home Department introduced the measures to prevent drownings and other accidents as heavy rainfall continues to raise water levels across the province. Officials urged citizens to avoid flooded locations and follow safety instructions to reduce risks during the ongoing rainy spell.

According to an official notification, the restrictions also prohibit bathing in rainwater collected on roads, streets, open spaces, and other public areas. In addition, authorities banned swimming in rivers, canals, dams, ponds, and lakes throughout Punjab. The government also prohibited boating without official permission in rivers, canals, dams, and distributaries to improve public safety during the monsoon.

The Home Department imposed the restrictions under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898. Officials said strong water currents and rising river levels have significantly increased the danger of drowning incidents. Therefore, the temporary order aims to protect lives until weather conditions become safer.

Meanwhile, the Punjab Home Secretary directed district administrations and law enforcement agencies to enforce the order strictly across the province. Authorities will monitor vulnerable locations and take action against anyone violating the restrictions. They also plan to maintain close surveillance of areas facing higher flood risks during the rainy season.

Furthermore, district administrations will launch awareness campaigns to educate people about the dangers of entering water bodies during heavy rains. Officials advised residents to avoid unnecessary visits to rivers, canals, dams, and flooded areas. They also urged the public to cooperate with authorities and follow all safety guidelines until the restrictions expire.
