A Punjab rain thunderstorm alert covers Lahore and dozens of other districts as a fresh weather system sweeps the province
Punjab is bracing for another round of unsettled weather. A weak weather system carrying dust-laden winds and rain remains active across the province. Fresh showers are expected in Lahore and several other districts today.
The recent rainfall has already brought some relief. Temperatures across Punjab have dropped noticeably. Lahore in particular has turned relatively pleasant compared to the scorching conditions of previous days.
According to the Met Office, Lahore recorded a minimum temperature of 26°C on Friday. The maximum is expected to reach 34°C today. Furthermore, dust storms and rain are likely to hit the city again before the day ends.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority has issued a formal alert. It warns of strong winds, rain, and possible hailstorms across Punjab. Moreover, the authority expects rainfall to continue in most districts of the province through today.
The list of affected areas is extensive. Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Jhelum, and Chakwal are all in the forecast zone. Additionally, Bhakkar, Layyah, Faisalabad, Jhang, Okara, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, and Wazirabad face similar conditions. Sargodha, Mianwali, Sheikhupura, Khushab, and Dera Ghazi Khan also fall within the alert area. Meanwhile, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Multan, Khanewal, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Kot Addu, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, and Narowal are equally at risk.
On the administrative side, commissioners and deputy commissioners across Punjab are now on high alert. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz issued directions prompting the province-wide mobilization. In Lahore specifically, WASA has instructed its operational staff to remain in the field throughout the day in anticipation of rainfall.
The PDMA has issued clear safety guidance for residents. Citizens should stay indoors during lightning and avoid open areas during thunderstorms. Additionally, people should exercise caution during dust storms and strong winds. Farmers have received a separate advisory to take precautionary measures given the rapidly changing conditions. Tourists heading to northern areas should also exercise extra care on the roads.
The Punjab rain thunderstorm alert reflects how quickly weather conditions can escalate during this season. Therefore, residents across the province should monitor official updates closely and avoid unnecessary travel during peak storm hours today.
