Regional mediators, including Qatar, Egypt, Pakistan, and other countries, have proposed a US Iran ceasefire lasting 10 days, according to a report by the American news website Axios. The proposal aims to reduce tensions, reopen the Strait of Hormuz, and create space for diplomatic negotiations. However, neither Washington nor Tehran has accepted the plan.
According to the report, US President Donald Trump faces two major options in the ongoing conflict with Iran. The first is to support a 10-day ceasefire that could help restore shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. The second is to launch a larger military campaign alongside Israel to pressure Iran into surrendering.
Axios reported that Trump has not yet made a final decision. However, US officials believe the next few days will determine which path the administration chooses. They also said the prolonged conflict is becoming increasingly difficult to sustain.
Two regional sources familiar with the mediation effort told Axios that Qatar, Egypt, Pakistan, and other regional mediators presented the ceasefire proposal to both countries. According to US officials, the Trump administration is reviewing the offer. However, neither the United States nor Iran has agreed to the proposal so far.
The report added that both sides appear to be strengthening their positions before considering a ceasefire. According to Axios, neither country wants to enter negotiations without first improving its military position on the ground.
Axios also reported that ten days of continuous military operations have failed to eliminate Iran’s influence over the Strait of Hormuz. At the same time, fuel prices have started rising again in the United States, increasing domestic criticism of the conflict.
One regional source said ceasefire efforts had shown progress before an Iranian missile attack in Jordan reportedly killed two US soldiers. Following that incident, Washington adopted a tougher position. A senior US official said discussions are continuing, but Trump has not yet completed the planned response to the attack.
The proposed US Iran ceasefire remains under discussion as regional mediators continue their diplomatic efforts. According to Axios, one regional source said a lasting solution is still possible, but neither side can dictate the final terms or be excluded from future negotiations.
