Pakistan’s scientific community celebrates another significant international honor. Prof. Dr. Hina Siddiqui became this Pakistani scientist elected fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry in the United Kingdom. She serves as Professor of Organic and Medicinal Chemistry at the H.E.J. Research Institute of Chemistry. Additionally, she’s associated with the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences at the University of Karachi. This fellowship recognizes her sustained contributions to chemical sciences advancement.
Her academic journey began with a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Karachi. Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary supervised her doctoral research specifically. She subsequently progressed through various research and academic positions at ICCBS. Additionally, she received advanced training at the University of Kansas in the United States. She also completed postdoctoral work at Germany’s University of Tübingen.
Prof. Siddiqui’s research output demonstrates remarkable productivity. She has published more than 70 research papers in international journals. Additionally, she holds one granted US patent alongside several local patents. She has also authored a complete book plus several book chapters.
Her research specifically targets developing new anti-infectious agents. This includes antibacterial, antiprotozoal and antiviral compounds specifically. Additionally, her work covers inhibitors for clinically important enzymes. She also focuses on expanding chemical space through new molecular libraries.
Beyond research, Prof. Siddiqui has significantly shaped future scientists. She has supervised more than 35 M.Phil. and Ph.D. students in medicinal chemistry. This includes students from various African and Asian countries. Her supervision has strengthened research capacity and international collaboration substantially.
She has secured multiple competitive research grants nationally and internationally. Additionally, she has delivered more than 70 lectures at various venues. These include plenary and invited talks at workshops and conferences both domestically and abroad.
Prof. Siddiqui also serves as Adjunct Professor across multiple universities. Furthermore, she holds status as an OIC-COMSTECH Distinguished Scholar. This role contributes to scientific knowledge exchange among OIC member states specifically.
