Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved seven new Nawaz Sharif Medical City hospitals as part of a major healthcare expansion. The flagship project will add 1,519 beds and several specialized medical facilities to the province’s health sector.
Officials granted the approval during a special meeting focused on public-private partnership projects. During the session, participants reviewed 110 proposed development schemes across Punjab. Additionally, the chief minister approved the establishment of Children’s Hospital-IV and the Institute of Surgical Orthopedics.
According to officials, the medical city will include a Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Center and an Institute of Genetic and Blood Diseases. It will also feature a Center of Excellence for Nursing and Midwifery, an Infectious Diseases Hospital, and an Institute of Ophthalmology. Together, these facilities point to a wide-ranging effort to modernize specialized care in the province.
The government plans to develop these hospitals in phases as part of a long-term healthcare expansion strategy. Meanwhile, the same meeting also reviewed plans for student hostels, road infrastructure, and trucking terminals. Officials further discussed bus stands, model bazaars, and food street projects during the session.
Participants learned that four public-private partnership projects are already operational across the province. Furthermore, officials have completed feasibility studies for 27 additional projects, signaling a steady pipeline of upcoming development work.
Other initiatives on the agenda included an FMD production plant in the Medical District and a Time Travel Park in Lahore. The meeting also covered a shrimp farming project and a Mines-to-Metals project in Chiniot. These projects reflect the province’s push to diversify investment beyond healthcare alone.
Speaking at the meeting, Maryam Nawaz said the Punjab government would continue its development agenda. She added that the province would expand collaboration with the private sector to accelerate economic growth. Finally, she emphasized that these efforts aim to improve public services for residents across Punjab.
