Pakistan Launches Subsidized Petrol Mobile App for Motorcyclists

The federal government has officially decided to launch a special relief package for the subsidized petrol scheme. This digital initiative specifically targets motorcyclists and rickshaw drivers across the country. According to official sources, the program will operate through a mobile application-based quota system. Eligible users can purchase fuel at reduced prices to combat rising inflation. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif recently chaired a high-level meeting to finalize the implementation options for this targeted relief.

How the Subsidized Petrol Mobile App System Works

The government has developed a robust digital infrastructure to ensure the transparent distribution of relief. The Ministry of IT and the Petroleum Division have finalized the technical details of the application. Separate applications will cater to both consumers and petrol pump operators to streamline the process. This subsidized petrol initiative relies on a secure verification process to prevent misuse and ensure only the low-income strata benefit.

  • Digital Vouchers: Consumers will generate unique digital vouchers through their dedicated mobile app.

  • Retailer Verification: Petrol pump staff will use specialized mobile devices to scan and verify these vouchers.

  • Registration Link: Each user’s quota is strictly linked to their CNIC and vehicle registration number.

  • Proposed Quota: The current plan suggests a limit of 15 to 20 litres per month for eligible individuals.

Relief Amid Rising Fuel and Inflation Costs

This move follows a significant surge in energy prices due to regional instability and global oil market volatility. On March 7, 2026, petrol prices jumped to Rs 321.17 per litre, placing immense pressure on daily wage earners. Officials believe this subsidized petrol program will protect the most economically vulnerable segments from further financial strain. The government may also expand the program to include small cars with engines up to 800cc in the future.

By using a mobile-first approach, the state aims to eliminate middleman interference and ensure direct relief. Approximately 12,000 fuel stations across Pakistan will receive dedicated mobile units to facilitate these transactions. As the subsidized petrol program rolls out nationwide, it will provide much-needed breathing room for millions of citizens. The authorities will monitor the system 24/7 to redress any consumer complaints promptly.
