Police arrested a man after he allegedly fired several shots into the air near Federal Information Minister Ataullah Tarar’s vehicle in Lahore’s Defence A area. The minister was travelling with his family late Saturday night. Authorities said preliminary findings suggest the incident was not a targeted attack, and no one was injured.

According to police, the suspect, identified as Osama, allegedly overtook the minister’s vehicle before displaying a firearm and firing into the air. Meanwhile, Tarar’s security team followed the vehicle, noted its registration number and immediately informed nearby police. Officers quickly launched an operation to trace the suspect.

Investigators later arrested the accused with the help of Safe City surveillance cameras and other modern investigative technology. Police also recovered the firearm allegedly used in the incident and seized the vehicle involved. In addition, authorities registered a criminal case, and further legal proceedings are underway.

Speaking after the incident, Tarar confirmed that neither he nor his family members were harmed. He said the suspect did not know that a federal minister was travelling in the vehicle. He also clarified that the shots were fired into the air and were not aimed at him.

Police officials said the available evidence points to an incident of aerial firing rather than a planned attack. However, investigators will continue examining all aspects of the case before reaching a final conclusion. Authorities also reiterated their commitment to taking strict legal action against illegal weapon use and public endangerment.
