Tomato prices have climbed sharply in Karachi, leaving consumers with higher food costs. The latest Karachi tomato prices have reached between Rs450 and Rs500 per kilogram. However, the arrival of Iranian tomatoes has not provided the expected relief in local markets.

Retail markets across Karachi are selling tomatoes at much higher rates than before. According to media reports, many vendors are charging between Rs450 and Rs500 per kilogram. The same prices equal around Rs110 to Rs125 per quarter kilogram.

Traders are selling both Iranian and Quetta tomatoes at these higher rates. Despite increased supplies, prices have remained elevated. As a result, shoppers continue to face expensive vegetable purchases.

Some vendors are also offering smaller and unripe tomatoes at slightly lower prices. These tomatoes are selling for around Rs400 per kilogram. Even these lower-priced options remain costly for many consumers.

The arrival of imported Iranian tomatoes was expected to reduce prices in the city. However, market rates have stayed high. Consumers have not received the relief they had hoped for.

Many buyers continue to compare prices before making purchases. Meanwhile, retailers are selling tomatoes at different rates depending on their size and quality. Larger and better-quality tomatoes are generally priced higher.

Tomatoes remain an important ingredient in daily cooking across Pakistan. Therefore, the latest price increase is adding pressure to household budgets. Consumers are closely watching the market for any drop in prices.

The current Karachi tomato prices remain between Rs450 and Rs500 per kilogram in many markets. Although Iranian tomatoes have reached the city, the additional supply has not lowered prices for consumers.
