The Lahore Qalandars management has taken strict disciplinary action against their star captain, Shaheen Shah Afridi, after an incident involving a breach of security protocols. The franchise has officially fined the fast bowler 1 million rupees and formally notified the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) of the decision.
According to the official statement from Lahore Qalandars, the incident occurred at the team hotel. Despite warnings from security personnel, Shaheen Afridi and teammate Sikandar Raza reportedly escorted four guests into Raza’s room. A formal correspondence from the DIG to the PCB administration highlighted that the entry was facilitated despite explicit instructions to the contrary.
The franchise’s internal investigation team clarified that the event had been “exaggerated and presented out of context” in some reports. They maintained that the breach was the result of a misunderstanding rather than a deliberate attempt to defy authority. However, to uphold the high standards of discipline and safety required during the PSL 11 season, the penalty was deemed necessary.
“Lahore Qalandars respects all security protocols and believes in absolute accountability,” the franchise spokesperson stated. The management emphasized that maintaining a secure environment for all players and staff remains their top priority, especially given the current regional sensitivities.
This disciplinary move comes just as the PSL 11 season kicks off, serving as a firm reminder to all participants about the importance of adhering to the established “security circle.” While Shaheen Afridi continues to lead the defending champions on the field, this off-field correction ensures that the team’s focus remains on professional conduct and the pursuit of their third consecutive title.
