PTI Demands Immediate Medical Treatment for Imran Khan at Shifa Hospital

Leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf have once again expressed serious concern over the health of jailed party founder and former prime minister Imran Khan, demanding that he be immediately shifted to Shifa International Hospital for proper medical treatment.

Addressing the media in Islamabad, Sohail Afridi said the party had made every possible constitutional and legal effort to ensure Imran Khan receives treatment in the presence of his family and personal doctors, but their requests have not been accepted.

Afridi emphasized that Imran Khan is not an ordinary citizen but a former prime minister, adding that he has been detained at Adiala Jail since September 2023.

PTI Leaders Raise Health Concerns

PTI leaders criticized the government for allegedly restricting access to medical care and limiting meetings with family members and doctors.

Party leader Junaid Akbar said the current regional environment is already tense and warned that increasing hostility between the public and state institutions could lead to serious consequences.

“If Imran Khan’s health condition is not serious, then why are his sisters not being allowed to meet him?” he questioned.

Former federal law minister Babar Awan alleged that Imran Khan’s illness had been concealed for nearly two and a half months, describing the delay in treatment as a criminal act.

According to Awan, the delay has caused severe damage to the former prime minister’s eyesight.

Demand for Treatment at Shifa Hospital

PTI leader Shahid Khattak said the party has little confidence in the current medical arrangements and insisted that Imran Khan be treated at Shifa International Hospital with access to his family and personal physicians.

Former provincial minister Taimur Saleem Jhagra also highlighted the seriousness of the regional situation, referring to tensions between Iran and Israel.

He stressed that providing proper medical care to Imran Khan in the presence of his family and doctors is a basic legal right.

Opposition Resolution for Release

Meanwhile, a meeting of the joint opposition parliamentary party passed a unanimous resolution demanding the immediate release of Imran Khan.

The resolution expressed serious concern about his health condition and noted that he has reportedly been shifted twice for treatment to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences due to inadequate medical facilities in prison.

It also pointed out the absence of a retina specialist at the hospital and claimed that despite worsening vision in his right eye, access to his personal doctors and family members remains restricted.

Citing Rules 143, 145, 146, 197 and 795 of the Pakistan Prison Rules along with Section 401 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, the opposition demanded his immediate release on medical grounds, referring to precedents where similar relief had been granted to a convicted former prime minister.

PTI leaders said their demands are constitutional and legal, adding that the party is seeking justice through the courts while maintaining that peaceful protest remains their constitutional right.
