In a significant diplomatic exchange marking the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a telephone conversation with King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain to exchange festive greetings and discuss the volatile security situation in the Middle East. While the call began with traditional prayers for the unity and harmony of the Muslim Ummah, the dialogue quickly shifted to the escalating conflict that has recently seen Bahraini territory targeted by aerial attacks.
According to an official statement, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif issued a strong condemnation of the ongoing hostilities, specifically addressing the recent strikes on Bahrain. Expressing deep sorrow over the loss of lives, the Prime Minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering solidarity with the Kingdom. He emphasized that Pakistan stands firmly with the people of Bahrain during this period of heightened regional instability, which has seen several Gulf nations drawn into the periphery of the US-Israel-Iran war.
The Prime Minister utilized the call to brief King Hamad on Pakistan’s ongoing diplomatic initiatives aimed at de-escalation. Reaffirming Islamabad’s position that a peaceful resolution is the only viable path forward, he stressed that Pakistan remains committed to supporting all international efforts to end the current cycle of violence. This follows recent statements from the Pakistani military leadership regarding the need for regional stability and the protection of sovereign borders against external provocation.
In their concluding remarks, both leaders agreed to maintain “close coordination” on both bilateral and regional matters. They highlighted the necessity of strengthening security and economic cooperation to promote long-term stability across the region. As the conflict continues to impact global energy markets and regional security frameworks, this high-level contact underscores the deepening strategic ties between Islamabad and Manama in the face of shared geopolitical challenges.
