Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni during his official visit to Pakistan. The meeting focused on Pakistan Iran relations, regional stability, and the recent tensions in the Gulf. Eskandar Momeni called on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad on Tuesday. The two leaders discussed matters of mutual interest and reviewed the current regional situation. They also exchanged views on strengthening cooperation between Pakistan and Iran.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz expressed deep concern over the recent tensions in the Gulf. He urged all parties to exercise restraint and avoid actions that could increase instability in the region. He stressed that dialogue remains the best way to resolve disputes peacefully.
The prime minister said Pakistan will continue to play the role of an honest and sincere mediator. He added that the country remains committed to supporting diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions and promoting regional peace.
Momeni appreciated Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts to ease regional tensions. He praised the mediation initiatives led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir. He said their efforts contributed to the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.
The Iranian minister also thanked the prime minister for visiting Tehran to attend the funeral of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenai. He described the visit as an important gesture that reflected the close relationship between the two neighboring countries.
Both sides emphasized the importance of maintaining regular dialogue and expanding bilateral cooperation. They also agreed that continued engagement would help strengthen trust and support peace in the region.
