Pakistan heatwave warning PMD

Pakistan heatwave warning PMD covers June 7 to 12 as a high-pressure system drives temperatures to dangerous extremes across nearly every province

Pakistan is heading into a dangerous stretch of weather. The Pakistan Meteorological Department issued a Pakistan heatwave warning PMD alert covering June 7 to June 12. A high-pressure system is developing in the upper atmosphere and will remain active through June 11. Moreover, the warning covers nearly every major region of the country. Some areas could hit 51°C.

Sindh faces the most extreme conditions. Sukkur, Jacobabad, Larkana, Dadu, Ghotki, Sibbi, Turbat, and Panjgur could record between 48°C and 51°C from June 7 to June 12. Furthermore, Karachi faces very hot conditions with temperatures between 40°C and 43°C during the same period. Night temperatures across Sindh will also rise significantly.

Punjab will also bake. Lahore, Multan, Faisalabad, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, and Dera Ghazi Khan could hit between 44°C and 48°C from June 8 to June 11. Furthermore, isolated dust storms may develop in parts of southern Punjab due to intense surface heating. Therefore, residents face both extreme heat and reduced visibility at times.

Islamabad and Rawalpindi are forecast to reach between 41°C and 44°C from June 8 to June 10. That sits 5°C to 7°C above normal. Furthermore, Peshawar, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, and Mardan could reach between 41°C and 46°C during the same period. Chitral, Dir, Swat, and Gilgit-Baltistan will record cooler but still above-normal temperatures between 37°C and 40°C.

The warning covers an unusually wide geographic area. Therefore, every household across Pakistan must take precautions seriously. Stay indoors during peak hours. Stay hydrated. Check on elderly and vulnerable family members. Finally, with dangerous heat expected through June 12, this heatwave demands urgent attention from everyone.
