Pakistan has approved prices for life-saving medicines after a federal cabinet subcommittee cleared 52 newly registered drugs. The decision covers treatments for cancer, diabetes, hemophilia, and Parkinson’s disease. The federal cabinet will make the final decision. After approval, DRAP will issue an official notification so companies can legally sell the medicines in Pakistan.

Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb chaired the meeting. Health Minister Mustafa Kamal, the Health Secretary, and DRAP officials also attended. They reviewed the proposed prices and approved them after detailed discussions.

The approved list includes medicines for several serious diseases. These drugs will help patients who need advanced treatment. Officials expect the decision to improve access to modern healthcare across the country.

The list includes Keytruda, a modern immunotherapy medicine that doctors use to treat more than 20 types of cancer worldwide. It also includes Nivolumab, Dasatinib, Meropenem, and insulin. These medicines support the treatment of different life-threatening and chronic diseases.

The federal cabinet must now give final approval. After that, DRAP will publish the official price notification. The notification will allow pharmacies and hospitals to sell the medicines legally.

Health officials said delays created serious problems for patients. Many people had to buy unregistered, smuggled, or costly imported medicines. Therefore, many families struggled to continue treatment.

The Ministry of Health also called for faster pricing decisions. Officials stressed transparency throughout the approval process. They said quick decisions would protect patients and improve access to quality medicines.

Officials believe the decision will reduce illegal medicine supplies and improve patient care. They also expect life-saving medicines to become easier to buy through legal channels after the federal cabinet approves the prices and DRAP issues the official notification.
