The National Disaster Management Authority has issued a nationwide NDMA weather alert Pakistan residents should take seriously over the next 24 hours. The alert warns of thunderstorms, strong winds, heavy rainfall, urban flooding, and glacier-related flood risks across several parts of the country.

According to the National Emergencies Operation Centre, this weather pattern matches seasonal forecasts issued earlier this year. Therefore, officials had some advance notice to prepare. The NDMA says it has been sharing warnings and risk assessments with federal, provincial, and district authorities to ensure preparedness and a timely response.

The authority flagged particular concern for vulnerable mountainous regions. Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir all face an elevated risk of flash floods, landslides, and Glacial Lake Outburst Floods. These regions tend to see the most severe impact during sudden weather shifts.

Several districts in Punjab can expect rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, strong winds, and dust storms. This includes Lahore, Rawalpindi, Murree, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Multan, Bahawalpur, and Rahim Yar Khan. Additionally, forecasters expect similar weather conditions for Islamabad and parts of KP, Balochistan, Sindh, GB, and AJK.

The NDMA also warned about possible urban flooding in low-lying areas. This risk grows particularly high during periods of intense rainfall. Meanwhile, officials have directed district administrations and emergency response agencies to remain on high alert.

Rescue teams have received instructions to stay ready for any developing situation. So if conditions worsen quickly, response units should already be positioned to act. The NDMA has also advised citizens, tourists, and travelers to avoid unnecessary journeys during severe weather.

Anyone planning to visit northern areas should check road and weather conditions first. Flooding and landslides may disrupt travel without much warning in those regions.
