Why MasterChef India Remains So Famous

MasterChef India has captured the hearts of millions since it first aired in 2010. The show turned ordinary home cooks into household names and brought professional-level respect to everyday Indian cooking. Its popularity comes from a perfect mix of emotional stories, creative dishes, high-stakes challenges, and constructive guidance from top celebrity chefs. Unlike typical reality shows, MasterChef India celebrates real talent, regional flavours, and personal journeys, making viewers feel connected and inspired to cook at home.

The show quickly became a cultural phenomenon. It changed how Indians viewed home cooking by giving it prestige and recognition. Many people credit MasterChef India with sparking a food revolution across the country, encouraging viewers to experiment with ingredients and techniques they once thought were too complex.

Journey Through Past Seasons

MasterChef India has completed nine seasons so far, each leaving its own mark.

Season 1 (2010) launched with huge excitement and was won by Pankaj Bhadouria, who became the first MasterChef India titleholder. Season 2 saw Shipra Khanna triumph as a single mother with creative flair. Later seasons featured winners like Ripudaman Handa (Season 3), Nikita Gandhi (Season 4), Kirti Bhoutika (Season 5), Abinas Nayak (Season 6), Nayanjyoti Saikia (Season 7), and Mohammed Ashiq (Season 8).

These winners went on to open restaurants, write cookbooks, start food businesses, and build strong social media followings. The consistent presence of respected judges such as Vikas Khanna, Ranveer Brar, Kunal Kapur, and others in different seasons added credibility and depth to the show. Their honest feedback, mentorship, and passion for Indian cuisine kept audiences hooked season after season.

The New Season (Season 9 – 2026)

The latest season of MasterChef India, which aired from 5 January to 6 March 2026 on Sony Entertainment Television and SonyLIV, introduced an exciting new format. For the first time, contestants competed in pairs (jodis). The season carried the proud theme “Pride of India”, celebrating India’s rich culinary heritage, regional recipes, micro-cuisines, and forgotten flavours. The tagline “Desh Front Foot Par Chal Raha Hai” highlighted how Indian food is stepping forward globally.

The beloved judging trio — Chef Vikas Khanna, Chef Ranveer Brar, and Chef Kunal Kapur — reunited on the panel. Their chemistry and expertise made the season even more engaging. After intense challenges, the brothers Ajinkya and Vikram Gandhe from Nagpur emerged as winners, while Chandana and Saisri Rachakonda finished as runners-up.

This season stood out for its focus on authentic Indian pride through food, creative twists on traditional dishes, and heartwarming stories of the contestant pairs.
