Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram is reportedly in talks to make his television drama debut alongside veteran actress Mahnoor Baloch in a project directed by Fahim Burney.
The project is at an early stage, with the cast still being finalized. Burney has reportedly shared details about the drama on Instagram, but neither Akram’s nor Baloch’s participation has been officially confirmed. Reports also suggest actress Mahira Khan may be approached for a special appearance, though that is uncertain.
Reaction on social media has been mixed. Actress Javeria Abbasi welcomed the news, while some users questioned casting a former cricketer in a drama.
Akram would not be new to acting. He appeared in Faisal Qureshi’s film Money Back Guarantee, which opened in cinemas on April 21, 2023, alongside his wife Shaniera and Fawad Khan. He told Outlook India he took the role because the director, a friend, asked him, and Khaleej Times noted at the time that he had turned down many acting offers after retiring from international cricket in 2003. A drama serial would be his first TV acting role.
Burney and Baloch have worked together before. He directed her in Hum TV’s Noor Bano in 2010 and Mehar Bano aur Shah Bano in 2012. In July 2026, Burney posted photos of a meeting with Baloch on Instagram, saying it was good to see her after a long time and calling her a lifelong best friend.
Akram took 916 international wickets across 104 Tests and 356 One Day Internationals and was part of Pakistan’s 1992 World Cup-winning team.
