Lahore Metro system has officially switched to fully digital fare payments. The Lahore Mass Transit Authority has ended the token and old transit card system for the Orange Line Train, Metro Bus, and Speedo buses. The change aims to speed up travel, improve convenience, and promote cashless payments across the city’s public transport network.

Mass Transit Authority In-charge Uzair Shah said passengers can no longer use the previous transit cards. He added that authorities will not refund any unused balance on those cards. However, commuters can return the old cards and claim the Rs130 security deposit at designated transit stations.

Passengers can now pay fares through the T-Cash Card, the official mobile app, and ATM cards. These digital options have replaced both tokens and the old transit cards. Officials believe the new system will make fare collection faster and reduce delays for daily commuters.

However, some passengers criticised the transition. They claimed staff still asked them to recharge old cards despite the new policy. Others said the authority did not give enough notice before ending the previous payment system, creating confusion for regular travellers.

The Lahore Metro authority urged commuters to return discontinued cards and switch to the approved digital payment methods. Officials said the move marks another step towards modernising Lahore’s public transport network and improving the overall travel experience.
