Former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chief Executive Wasim Khan has been appointed Executive Director of FIBA Asia. He will officially assume the role in January 2027. The regional basketball body confirmed that Khan has already joined the organisation to begin the transition process. He will replace outgoing Executive Director Hagop Khajirian after completing the handover.

As Executive Director, Wasim Khan will lead the development and administration of basketball across Asia. He will work closely with 44 national basketball federations to strengthen the sport and support its long-term growth. FIBA Asia believes his leadership experience will help expand basketball throughout the region.

Khan built a strong reputation in sports administration through several senior roles in international cricket. Earlier this year, he stepped down as the International Cricket Council’s General Manager of Cricket. Before joining the ICC, he served as Chief Executive of the Pakistan Cricket Board, where he oversaw key operational and administrative reforms.

His career also includes leading Leicestershire County Cricket Club as chief executive and heading the UK-based youth cricket charity Chance to Shine. These positions gave him extensive experience in sports governance, organisational management, and talent development. His broad administrative background is expected to benefit FIBA Asia in the years ahead.

The appointment marks a major career move from cricket to international basketball. Wasim Khan has already started work as Executive Director-designate to ensure a smooth transition before taking full charge in January 2027. His appointment also highlights the growing global recognition of Pakistani sports administrators and their contributions to international sports leadership.
