Monsoon rains have raised water levels across Punjab, with low-level flooding reported at three locations along the Indus River, according to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA). Officials said the Chenab River situation has also improved after water levels dropped from high to medium flooding at several key points.

The PDMA reported low-level flooding at Tarbela, Kalabagh and Chashma. During the past 24 hours, Tarbela recorded a water flow of 342,000 cusecs, while Kalabagh and Chashma registered 309,000 and 293,000 cusecs, respectively. Despite the increase, officials said river flows remained stable.

Authorities also confirmed that conditions in the Chenab River have improved. Water levels dropped from high to medium flooding at Marala, Khanki and Qadirabad. The three locations recorded water flows of 208,000, 165,000 and 190,000 cusecs, respectively, after rainfall eased in the upper catchment areas.

The PDMA said the Jhelum and Sutlej rivers continued to flow at normal levels. The Ravi River recorded 83,000 cusecs at Balloki, while Jassar, Shahdara and Head Sidhani remained within normal limits. Meanwhile, officials reported medium-level flooding in Nullah Basantar in Narowal and at Nullah One in Wazirabad. They also recorded low-level flooding at Nullah One near the Ara Cantt Bridge.

PDMA Director General Umar Abbas Mela said rainfall had stopped in the Chenab River’s upper catchment areas, helping stabilise water flows during the past 24 hours. However, authorities continue to monitor river conditions closely and have advised residents in vulnerable areas to remain alert as the monsoon season continues.
