First 100% ‘Made in Pakistan’ EV Production Begins

For the first time in Pakistan’s 77-year history, the production process of a “Made in Pakistan” car built entirely with 100% locally manufactured parts has officially begun.

This landmark announcement came from Engineering Development Board (EDB) CEO Hammad Mansoor while speaking to The Express Tribune during an iftar dinner hosted by SMEDA Director Mashhood Khan.

The Made-in-Pakistan electric vehicle (EV) is expected to hit the roads by June or July 2026. The first dedicated manufacturing plant will be established in Lahore, and the car will be priced below Rs1 million — a game-changing affordability target aimed at helping millions of motorcycle users upgrade to four-wheelers with ease.

To accelerate localisation and support domestic manufacturers, the government is planning major tax reductions on vehicles in the upcoming federal budget. Industry sources also confirm the EV will deliver a practical driving range of 180–200 km on a single charge, with Pakistan’s first local lithium battery manufacturing plant scheduled to begin production by May 2026.

This breakthrough not only ends decades of reliance on imported auto parts but also signals Pakistan’s strong push toward self-reliance, green mobility, and a more sustainable automotive future. A truly historic “Made in Pakistan” moment that could transform how Pakistanis drive.
