Lahore Qalandars batter Fakhar Zaman has received a two-match suspension following a high-profile Fakhar Zaman HBL PSL ban for ball tampering. The incident occurred during the eleventh season of the HBL Pakistan Super League during a match against Karachi Kings in Lahore. Video footage showed the 35-year-old opener altering the condition of the ball on Sunday night. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed that Zaman was found guilty of a Level 3 offense. This disciplinary action marks a rocky start for the defending champions in a season already facing unique challenges.
The charges against the veteran opener came after a formal disciplinary hearing with match referee Roshan Mahanama. Although Zaman denied the allegations, television footage provided clear evidence of the tampering. The footage showed several Qalandars players, including captain Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf, inspecting the ball with the umpire. As an immediate consequence on the field, the umpire awarded five penalty runs to the opposing team. Karachi Kings eventually won the match by four wickets, adding a sporting loss to the team’s growing disciplinary troubles.
This Fakhar Zaman HBL PSL ban is not the only controversy hitting the league this week. Fast bowler Naseem Shah recently received the largest fine in Pakistan cricket history for his social media comments regarding a political figure. Additionally, Shaheen Shah Afridi faced a $3,500 fine for breaching security protocols at the team hotel. These incidents have created a turbulent atmosphere during the opening week of the tournament. The PCB remains firm in its stance to maintain strict discipline among all participating athletes to protect the integrity of the league.
The current HBL PSL 11 season is operating under unusual conditions due to regional instability. Matches are taking place behind closed doors without fans at only two venues, Karachi and Lahore. These restrictions stem from fuel supply concerns caused by the ongoing conflict in the region. Despite the lack of a live audience, the pressure on players remains immense. The board hopes that these strict penalties will deter further violations as the tournament progresses. Fans are now waiting to see how Lahore Qalandars will adjust their lineup during Fakhar Zaman’s absence in the coming games.
