Maryam Nawaz has announced the launch of the Punjab Climate Leadership Development Internship Programme, a new initiative designed to involve young people in environmental protection while providing them with valuable professional experience.
The programme aims to engage youth in climate action and environmental governance across Punjab Pakistan. According to the chief minister, the initiative will give young participants an opportunity to contribute to environmental improvement while developing leadership and policy-related skills.
Under the programme, selected interns will receive a monthly stipend of Rs60,000. The internship will last for three months, and participants will be awarded an official certificate from the provincial government after successfully completing the programme.
To promote equal opportunities, 50% of the internship seats have been reserved for female students. The programme will also offer certification in collaboration with UNESCO, adding international recognition to the training experience.
Interns will work closely with officials from the Punjab Environmental Protection Agency, where they will gain practical exposure by contributing to environmental policy units and learning about governance related to climate and environmental management.
According to officials, participants will also be introduced to modern learning management systems and will have the opportunity to represent their respective districts. Selection will be carried out through an automated merit-based process to ensure transparency and fairness.
Young applicants interested in the programme can submit their applications online through the portal of the Environment Protection Department until March 29.
Maryam Nawaz welcomed the participation of young people in environmental initiatives, stating that youth involvement is essential for improving the environment and addressing climate challenges. She added that the leadership development programme would allow young individuals to play a meaningful role in protecting natural resources and promoting sustainable practices.
Separately, in her message on the International Day to Combat Islamophobia, the chief minister said that innocent Muslims in Palestine and Kashmir continue to face oppression and injustice due to Islamophobia. She also emphasized the need for Muslim countries to overcome internal differences and work together to address these challenges.
