The Sindh government recently took its official bike fuel subsidy portal offline as a precautionary measure. This decision followed repeated hacking attempts aimed at the newly launched digital system. Excise Minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla confirmed that the platform was temporarily disabled to protect user data and ensure financial security. Many citizens had reported accessibility issues shortly after the website went live for registration. However, technical teams have since reinforced the system, and the portal is now fully restored for public use.
Registration Progress and the Bike Fuel Subsidy Launch
Despite the early technical challenges, the bike fuel subsidy program is already showing significant progress. Minister Chawla shared that approximately 15,000 motorcyclists have registered their vehicles on the platform so far. Out of these, 3,000 applicants have successfully completed the entire subsidy process. The provincial government has already transferred payments of Rs. 2,000 each to 1,500 beneficiaries via Sindh Bank accounts. These initial transfers demonstrate that the financial pipeline is working correctly for those who meet the eligibility criteria.
The scale of this relief effort is massive, as Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon noted there are 6.7 million registered motorcycles in the province. Under this scheme, eligible owners receive a monthly stipend of Rs. 2,000 to offset rising transportation costs. This measure is a key part of the provincial government’s plan to support commuters. While the early hacking attempts caused a brief disruption, officials remain confident in the system’s ability to handle the large volume of applicants. Users are encouraged to continue their registrations now that security protocols have been strengthened to prevent further interference.
