The federal government has officially given in-principle approval for a new scheme of studies under the National Curriculum. This initiative focuses on reducing the heavy academic burden currently placed on young children in Pakistan. A technical committee cleared the draft on Tuesday, specifically targeting students from nursery to grade two. Education officials noted that the current workload for early learners is often too intense for their developmental stage. By introducing this child friendly syllabus, the ministry aims to make the early years of schooling more engaging and less stressful.

New Subjects Integrated into the Child Friendly Syllabus

The revised curriculum will move beyond traditional rote learning by introducing subjects relevant to modern life. Federal Secretary of Education Nadeem Mahbub stated that surveys confirmed students in early grades were struggling under the old structure. To address this, the new framework includes life safety skills, climate change awareness, and financial literacy. Furthermore, the government plans to reintroduce civic education through a revamped social sciences subject. These additions ensure that the child friendly syllabus prepares students for real-world challenges while maintaining a manageable academic pace.

Implementation is expected to begin in the next academic session following final consultations. Both federal and provincial authorities have expressed strong support for this unified educational direction. Representatives from Islamabad, all provinces, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan participated in the recent technical committee meetings. This collaborative effort ensures that the transition to a more holistic teaching model remains consistent across the country. By prioritizing student well-being, the government hopes to foster a more positive and productive learning environment for the next generation of Pakistanis.
