A Pakistani expat is demanding Rs. 178 million from the Sindh government over a BRT accident that cost him his eye. Syed Waqas filed the BRT accident compensation lawsuit after his vehicle hit an unmarked construction barrier on University Road in May 2025. Therefore, the case spotlights alleged safety negligence in the BRT Red Line project.
Waqas traveled from abroad to perform Hajj that year. While heading to Karachi airport, his vehicle crashed into a construction barrier installed for the BRT project. According to his petition, the barrier lacked reflective markings and warning signs. Furthermore, it had no other mandatory safety measures. As a result, he couldn’t see the obstacle in time.
The impact left him with permanent loss of one eye. Additionally, he suffered multiple facial fractures. His lawyer, Advocate Usman Farooq, told the Senior Civil Judge (East) that the injuries destroyed Waqas’s quality of life. Moreover, medical bills and rehabilitation costs mounted quickly.
The BRT accident compensation lawsuit names the project director, contractor, and Sindh government. Waqas seeks funds for medical treatment, rehabilitation, permanent disability compensation, and lost income. The total reaches Rs. 178.07 million. Additionally, he demands damages for the life-altering injuries sustained.
The petition argues that authorities failed basic safety protocols. Construction zones require reflective markings and warning signs. Safety barriers need visibility from distance. Still, officials allegedly ignored these requirements completely. Therefore, negligence directly caused the collision.
This BRT accident compensation lawsuit reflects broader project management concerns. Safety complaints have dogged the BRT Red Line since inception. Multiple accidents have been reported at construction sites. Moreover, contractors allegedly prioritize speed over worker and public safety.
Waqas’s case could set precedent for similar claims. Dozens of accident victims may pursue similar compensation. Furthermore, the lawsuit pressure could force authorities to improve safety standards finally.
Finally, the BRT accident compensation lawsuit reminds officials that construction projects endanger lives when safety gets ignored.
