Tragedy struck Karachi as torrential rains and wind speeds reaching 97 kilometers per hour lashed the metropolitan city. The extreme weather conditions led to various fatal accidents across North Nazimabad, Surjani, and Clifton.
In the most devastating incident, a building wall collapsed near Baldia Mowach Goth, claiming eleven lives instantly. Rescue officials reported that several individuals, seeking shelter from the rain, were trapped under the heavy debris.
The Sindh government immediately responded, with Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah taking notice of the mounting casualties. Home Minister Zia Lanjar and Mayor Murtaza Wahab visited affected sites to oversee urgent rescue operations.
Other fatalities were reported from Malir, where a man was struck by lightning, and Korangi, where roof collapses occurred. Fallen billboards and uprooted trees across Sharea Faisal further complicated the emergency response efforts.
K-Electric infrastructure suffered significant damage, plunging large parts of the city into darkness as the storm began. Areas like Gulshan-e-Iqbal and DHA experienced prolonged power suspensions due to tripped feeders and broken wires.
The Meteorological Department predicts that while immediate rain has subsided, more thunderstorms are expected later today. Citizens are advised to remain cautious as another westerly wave might bring further rainfall during Eid.
