DIG Traffic Pir Muhammad Shah revealed that a pilot study of 100 motorcyclists showed universal attempts to bypass the electronic challan system. This high rate of non-compliance has deeply concerned city officials.
Data indicates that over 70 percent of motorcycles lacked any visible number plates during the assessment. Additionally, 20 percent of riders deliberately concealed their plates to avoid being tracked by the cameras.
Authorities also discovered that many motorcycles with plates had incorrect registered addresses or unreadable characters. These deceptive practices have significantly undermined the effectiveness of the city’s modern electronic enforcement and surveillance.
On the instructions of IG Sindh, a strict enforcement drive will commence immediately following the Eid holidays. Violators face heavy fines, and non-compliant motorcycles may be impounded by the Karachi traffic police.
