Maryam Nawaz expands Sanjhi Sabzi project across Punjab

Maryam Nawaz has directed all deputy commissioners across Punjab to launch the Sanjhi Sabzi project after praising its successful implementation in Muzaffargarh. The initiative aims to grow seasonal vegetables on government-owned land and distribute them free of charge to deserving families. The chief minister described the project as an effective public welfare model that should benefit communities throughout the province.

The project has already started in Muzaffargarh on the chief minister’s instructions. Authorities are cultivating vegetables on 140 plots covering 139 kanals of government-owned land in both urban and rural areas. Officials said the initiative will help improve access to fresh vegetables for low-income families while making productive use of vacant public land.

The project began in a Christian community village in Muzaffargarh, where local residents also started growing vegetables voluntarily to support needy families. The participation of community members has strengthened the welfare initiative and encouraged greater public involvement. Officials hope similar efforts will emerge in other districts after the project expands across Punjab.

During a meeting, Muzaffargarh Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Usman Tahir Jappa briefed Maryam Nawaz on the project’s progress. He explained that authorities had identified government land ranging from one marla to one kanal in villages for vegetable cultivation. Departments including health, education, local government, forest, and assistant commissioners’ offices have also provided vacant land for the initiative.

Chief minister rewards successful initiative

Maryam Nawaz praised the deputy commissioner’s efforts and awarded him the Chief Minister Merit Badge along with a cash prize of Rs100,000. She instructed him to continue expanding the project and ensure its long-term success. She also directed all deputy commissioners to adopt the same model in their respective districts.

The chief minister said the Sanjhi Sabzi project demonstrates how government resources can directly support public welfare through practical community-based initiatives. She expressed confidence that expanding the programme across Punjab would help more deserving families while encouraging cooperation between local authorities and residents.
