During a high-stakes press briefing, White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt detailed the extensive impact of “Operation Epic Fury.” She revealed that 9,000 targets have been hit, resulting in the destruction of 90% of Iran’s missiles and drones, alongside more than 140 naval vessels.
The spokesperson described the naval devastation as unprecedented, marking the first time since World War II that a national navy has been dismantled to this extent. She emphasized that President Trump does not make idle threats and warned Iran against making further miscalculations.
The White House maintained that if the conflict is not resolved soon, Iran could face strikes “20 times more intense” than those already carried out. Leavitt noted that while military force is a ready option, President Trump still views diplomacy as the preferred first choice.
When questioned about rumors regarding Vice President JD Vance’s potential visit to Pakistan to meet Iranian officials, the spokesperson urged caution. She stated the situation remains volatile and that no meetings should be considered final until an official White House announcement is made.
The administration also linked the regional conflict to global energy stability, suggesting that the end of the war would lead to a significant decrease in fuel prices. Negotiations are reportedly ongoing, with JD Vance playing a central role in the diplomatic process.
In other diplomatic news, the White House confirmed that President Trump will meet with the Chinese President in Beijing on May 14 and 15. An official date for a reciprocal visit to Washington by the Chinese leadership later this year is expected to be announced soon.
