The match began at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba. West Indies won the toss and chose to bat first. However, rain interrupted play during the opening session. Only 14.1 overs were possible before lunch, and the home side reached 23/1.

Brandon King gave West Indies a steady start but fell for 12. Mohammad Abbas dismissed him to give Pakistan an early success. Play resumed about 30 minutes after the lunch break once the rain stopped.

After the restart, opener Tagenarine Chanderpaul and Hodge added 51 runs for the second wicket. Chanderpaul scored 21 before Pakistan removed him. The partnership helped West Indies recover after the early setback.

Hodge then shared a 42-run stand with Amir Jangoo. Jangoo made 21 before Abbas struck again to collect his second wicket. Pakistan continued to create chances, but the batting side stayed in control.

Later, Hodge and Shai Hope built an unbeaten 88-run partnership for the fourth wicket. They batted with patience and confidence during the final session. Hodge also completed a well-earned half-century.

By the close of play, West Indies had reached 194/3. Hodge remained unbeaten on 83, while Hope stayed not out on 39. Mohammad Abbas finished the day with two wickets, and Aamer Jamal picked up one.

Pakistan also handed a Test debut to 33-year-old left-arm spinner Ali Usman. The visitors will aim to break the strong partnership early on the second day. Meanwhile, West Indies first Test remains evenly balanced after an encouraging opening day.
