vivo has launched the vivo X500 series in China, unveiling the X500, X500 Pro and the all-new X500 Pro Max. Additionally, the company introduced the Watch 6 smartwatch and Buds Clip earphones. The Pro and Pro Max are the first phones officially announced with MediaTek’s 2nm Dimensity 9600 Pro chipset. Also, vivo skipped the X400 name, reportedly because “four” sounds similar to the word for death in Mandarin and Cantonese.
X500 Pro Max: 200MP Telephoto With 400mm Support
The Pro Max introduces a ZEISS 200MP APO telephoto camera built on Samsung’s HP0 sensor, labelled “Ultra class.” It supports CIPA 7.0 stabilisation and a 400mm equivalent teleconverter. Meanwhile, the Pro gets its own ZEISS APO telephoto with a Sony LYTIA 610 sensor, which vivo calls an industry first.
ZEISS G2 Ultra Teleconverter
vivo also unveiled the ZEISS G2 Ultra teleconverter for the Pro Max, paired with a hand grip. Together they enable the 400mm equivalent focal length. However, both accessories must be purchased separately.
New Main Camera
Both Pro models share a new ZEISS Ultra Dynamic main camera with a 1/1.28 inch sensor. vivo claims 17EV dynamic range, 4K 240fps slow motion and record-low readout noise. Furthermore, the phones support split-track colour grading and a dedicated Movie mode.
Software: OriginOS 7
The series ships with OriginOS 7, featuring a new liquid theme. It also adds AI-powered animated pet themes for the lock screen.
Imaging Chips and Performance
Two self-developed chips, the V3+ and VS1, pair with the 2nm Dimensity 9600 Pro. The phones also support 4K 120fps 10-bit Log recording.
vivo X500
The standard X500 reuses the X300 Pro’s sensors but has a different design, with a circular camera unit in a rectangular module.
Other Specifications
Reports suggest the X500 has a 6.59 inch display and 7,500mAh battery, while the Pro Max carries a 6.85 inch 2K display and up to 8,000mAh battery.
vivo Watch 6
The Watch 6 features a sapphire crystal cover, 3,500 nits brightness and 97.2% heart-rate accuracy. Prices start at CNY 999.
Pricing
The X500 Pro starts at CNY 6,499, therefore pricing higher than last year’s X300 Pro. The Pro Max starts at CNY 6,999. Rising memory costs are cited as the main reason.
Availability in Pakistan
The vivo X500 series has launched only in China so far. Still, certifications in Malaysia and the UAE hint at an international rollout in October or November.
