SUPARCO Predicts Eid-ul-Fitr Likely on March 21, 2026

Pakistan’s national space agency, Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission, has predicted that Eid-ul-Fitr is likely to fall on March 21, 2026, based on its latest astronomical calculations.

According to a spokesperson for SUPARCO, the new moon of Shawwal 1447 AH will be born on March 19, 2026, at 6:23 AM. By the time the sun sets that day, the moon is expected to be 12 hours and 41 minutes old, which is generally considered relatively young for visible crescent sighting.

The agency further explained that in Pakistan’s coastal areas, the expected difference between sunset and moonset on March 19 will be around 28 minutes. Despite this time window, experts believe the chances of sighting the Shawwal crescent moon on the evening of March 19 remain low.

Based on these astronomical estimates, SUPARCO has suggested that the first day of Shawwal 1447 AH will likely fall on Saturday, March 21, 2026, which would mark the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr.

However, SUPARCO clarified that these predictions are purely based on scientific calculations. The official announcement regarding the sighting of the Shawwal moon will be made by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, the body responsible for confirming the start of Islamic months in Pakistan.
