Saudi Arabia introduces flexible Umrah travel system

Saudi Arabia has launched a new multiple-entry Umrah visa that allows pilgrims to visit the Kingdom several times within one year. The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah said the visa remains valid for 365 days from the date of issuance. Pilgrims can make multiple visits with a combined stay of up to 90 days, provided they meet all entry and immigration requirements.

The new visa forms part of Saudi Vision 2030 and the Pilgrim Experience Program, which aims to improve services for visitors and simplify the pilgrimage journey. Officials said the initiative will enhance operational efficiency, strengthen Saudi Arabia’s position as a leading religious destination, and support the country’s economic diversification goals.

Pilgrims must purchase an approved service package through the Nusuk platform before every visit. They must also obtain a digital Umrah permit through the Nusuk application, with permit dates matching the selected service package. Authorities said the package duration cannot exceed the number of days remaining on the visa.

For the first visit, applicants must buy a service package, submit their visa application, and complete all travel requirements before entering Saudi Arabia. Authorities will record entry and exit details after each trip to monitor the remaining days under the visa’s 90-day cumulative stay limit.

Visa excludes Hajj season

Pilgrims planning additional visits must purchase a new service package and obtain a fresh Umrah permit before returning to the Kingdom. The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah said it will deactivate the visa after every departure and reactivate it once travellers complete all required procedures.

However, authorities will not allow the visa to be used during the annual Hajj season. The visa will remain inactive from 1 Dhu Al Qadah until 13 Dhu Al Hijjah. Officials said the policy will help manage pilgrimage operations during the busiest period of the Islamic calendar.

Saudi Arabia said the new system offers greater flexibility while expanding digital services for international pilgrims. The initiative follows earlier measures that allowed Gulf citizens and residents to perform Umrah throughout the year. Officials believe the changes will make Umrah travel easier and improve the overall pilgrimage experience.
