The Pakistan Cricket Board is preparing to initiate legal proceedings against Blessing Muzarabani for allegedly breaching his contract for the 2026 edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL 11).
According to reports, the Zimbabwean fast bowler withdrew from his commitment with PSL franchise Islamabad United after signing with an Indian Premier League side instead.
Signed as Replacement for Shamar Joseph
Muzarabani had been signed by Islamabad United for Rs11 million as a replacement for Shamar Joseph ahead of the PSL season scheduled to run from March 26 to May 3.
The 29-year-old pacer, who has played 89 T20 Internationals for Zimbabwe, later pulled out of the tournament to join Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League.
Muzarabani was reportedly signed by KKR as a replacement after Mustafizur Rahman was released by the franchise, allegedly following directives from the Board of Control for Cricket in India.
PSL and IPL Schedule Clash
The PCB’s decision to pursue legal action highlights the increasing tension caused by overlapping schedules between the PSL and IPL, which are running at the same time for the second consecutive year.
Cricket boards have struggled to retain overseas players when both leagues compete for availability during the same window.
Similar Incident Last Season
This is not the first time a player has faced consequences for leaving the PSL after signing a contract.
Last season, Corbin Bosch withdrew from the PSL after being drafted by Peshawar Zalmi and later joined Mumbai Indians as an injury replacement.
Bosch was subsequently handed a one-season ban from the PSL.
Muzarabani’s Rising Stock After T20 World Cup
Muzarabani’s move comes at a time when his reputation in T20 cricket has grown significantly following a strong performance at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
The fast bowler played a key role as Zimbabwe topped their group and advanced to the Super Eight stage, finishing the tournament with 13 wickets in six matches.
One of his standout performances was a four-wicket haul against Australia national cricket team, helping Zimbabwe secure an emphatic group-stage victory.
The PCB is now expected to pursue legal and disciplinary measures to address what it views as a clear breach of contractual obligations.
