Pakistani music just achieved an unprecedented digital milestone. Coke Studio’s 2022 hit “Pasoori” reached extraordinary Pasoori 1 billion views status recently. Therefore, this becomes the first Pakistan-made music video crossing this significant threshold. Coke Studio announced this achievement Sunday through an Instagram post specifically. They thanked “every single person who pressed play, sang along and made ‘Pasoori’ their own.”
The Ali Sethi-Shae Gill duet originally released February 7, 2022. It took just under four years and seven months reaching this billion-view milestone. This achievement doesn’t surprise industry observers given the song’s consistent popularity. “Pasoori” was Spotify’s most-streamed Pakistani song during its release year specifically. Additionally, it remains both Sethi and Gill’s most-streamed track currently. The song has accumulated almost 405 million streams on that platform alone.
The song’s cultural impact extended well beyond streaming numbers specifically. A press release confirmed “Pasoori” was 2022’s second most-searched term within Google’s Songs category. Additionally, it topped rankings among songs discovered through Hum to Search features specifically.
Coke Studio celebrated this milestone through additional social media content. They posted a reel featuring both Sethi and Gill alongside producers. Music producers Zulfiqar Khan (Xulfi) and Abdullah Siddiqui joined this celebratory content. The post specifically thanked fans for enabling this remarkable achievement.
Sami Wahid, Coca-Cola’s regional general manager, reflected on this milestone’s significance. “For nearly two decades, Coke Studio has carried Pakistan’s music, languages and stories to audiences across more than 180 countries, and ‘Pasoori’ shows what can happen when a song remains deeply rooted in its identity while connecting across borders,” he stated. He emphasized how audiences worldwide continue discovering and returning to the track four years later.
“Pasoori” achieved global sensation status immediately upon release specifically. The song inspired numerous covers across Pakistan, India and beyond the subcontinent. Notably, it appeared on Disney’s Ms Marvel soundtrack specifically. This show drew heavily from Pakistani culture given its Pakistani-American protagonist.
International appeal proves particularly striking regarding viewership patterns. Over 90 percent of YouTube views originated from outside Pakistan specifically. Additionally, the official music video has been viewed across more than 60 countries.
The song’s reach extended through creative collaborations internationally. Coke Studio Africa produced a remix version specifically. Sethi collaborated with Marwan Moussa and Reekado Banks for this rendition. This version infused the original with Nigerian Afrobeats elements distinctly.
However, not all attention proved welcome for the original creators. Bollywood attempted their own version featuring singer Arijit Singh specifically. This adaptation generated significant backlash from fans. Many viewed this attempted takeover unfavorably, considering it culturally inappropriate.
Finally, Pasoori 1 billion views achievement solidifies the song’s legacy as one of Pakistan’s most successful cultural exports, demonstrating how authentic artistic expression can resonate powerfully across global audiences and borders.
