Pakistan IT Exports Cross $400 Million Again to Hit Second Highest Level Ever

Pakistan IT exports

Pakistan IT exports record $423 million in April 2026 as the sector maintains strong momentum despite global pressures

Pakistan’s IT sector is on a roll. The country crossed the $400 million monthly export mark for the second time in April 2026, with the State Bank of Pakistan confirming receipts of $423 million from IT and IT-enabled services. The Pakistan IT exports record now stands as the second highest monthly total in the sector’s history. Moreover, only December 2025’s figure of $437 million sits above it.

The broader picture is equally impressive. During the July to April period of fiscal year 2025-26, the IT sector generated $3.81 billion in total receipts. That compares to $3.14 billion in the same period last year. Furthermore, that translates to a 21 percent year-on-year increase — strong growth by any measure, especially against a backdrop of global economic pressure and Middle East geopolitical tensions.

Freelancers are playing a growing role in driving these numbers. Pakistan Freelancers Association Chairman Ibrahim Amin said freelancer inflows are expected to cross the $1 billion mark this fiscal year alone. Therefore, individual digital workers are becoming a meaningful pillar of Pakistan’s export economy, not just a supplementary one.

However, challenges remain. Amin urged the government to tackle electricity load-shedding and slow internet speeds, calling improved infrastructure essential for higher productivity and stronger export growth. Without addressing these basics, the sector risks leaving significant revenue on the table.

The annual target of $5 billion remains out of reach for this fiscal year. The sector is likely to settle closer to $4.5 billion by year end. Still, that would represent a major achievement. Finally, with momentum building and freelancers stepping up, Pakistan’s IT industry is proving it can deliver at scale — even when conditions are far from perfect.
