Sindh has reported another case, taking the total number of mpox cases in the province to 93, according to the provincial health department. The latest patient is a 50-year-old man from Qazi Ahmed in Nawabshah. He is currently receiving treatment at the Sindh Infectious Diseases Hospital & Research Centre. Hospital officials said the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre referred him to the specialist facility.
The case adds to a count that has now crossed 90 in the province. Moreover, a senior doctor described his condition as poor because of chronic kidney disease. The patient has also been undergoing dialysis. Such underlying illness can make recovery harder for any patient.
Data from the Provincial Disease Surveillance and Response Unit shows 11 mpox deaths in Sindh this year. Those deaths show the illness can turn serious, especially for vulnerable patients.
Karachi remains the most affected city with 26 cases. Meanwhile, Khairpur follows with 22, and Sukkur has recorded nine. Together, these three cities account for 57 of the 93 infections. Karachi alone accounts for more than a quarter of all infections.
April recorded the highest monthly figure this year at 31. However, September followed with 20, while August recorded 17. Still, those two months together added 37 infections.
Of the total, 70 patients were male. The male share works out to roughly 75 percent of all infections. Furthermore, people aged 30 to 39 were the most affected age group.
Mpox is a viral infection that typically causes fever, body aches and a skin rash. Additionally, health authorities generally advise avoiding close contact with infected people. The Sindh health department said it was monitoring the situation.
Therefore, it urged people to take precautionary measures. It also asked anyone with symptoms to seek immediate medical attention.
Early reporting also helps doctors isolate patients and limit further spread. Finally, the rise in mpox cases means residents should stay alert.
