Sindh’s new forensic science laboratory is nearing completion. Officials expect it to become fully operational by December 2026. A meeting at the Sindh Assembly Building reviewed the project’s progress. The same meeting also covered the digitization and automation of the Sindh Criminal Prosecution Service.

Sindh Assembly Standing Committee on Home Chairperson Faryal Talpur chaired the meeting. Home and Law Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar attended, along with senior government officials and forensic and technical experts. Officials said construction of the laboratory building had entered its final stages. Meanwhile, preparations were underway to make the facility fully functional.

Once operational, the laboratory will offer a wide range of services. These include DNA and biological examination, fingerprint analysis, and toxicology and drug testing. Firearms and ballistics examination, crime-scene analysis, and evidence recovery and preservation will also be available. Moreover, the facility will handle digital and computer forensics.

The meeting also reviewed equipment requirements and the recruitment of qualified personnel. Participants discussed specialized training, quality assurance and international accreditation as well. Furthermore, international experts briefed them on global practices for running multidisciplinary forensic laboratories. They also discussed models relevant to law enforcement agencies, prosecution services and judicial institutions.

Faryal Talpur said the project should develop into a credible scientific institution. She said it must give police, prosecutors and courts timely, reliable and scientifically verifiable evidence. Therefore, she directed the relevant departments to coordinate on infrastructure, technology, staffing, training and operational protocols. Finally, officials hope the Sindh forensic lab will become fully functional as planned.
