KP summer vacations colleges and universities begin June 15 as the Higher Education Department announces separate schedules for plains and mountain regions
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa students are heading into their summer break. The KP Higher Education Department announced summer vacations for public and private colleges and universities across the province. KP summer vacations colleges in plain areas run from June 15 to August 31, 2026. Moreover, institutions in colder mountainous regions follow a shorter schedule from July 1 to July 31. Therefore, the holiday duration varies based on geography and climate.
The decision aims to give students and staff relief from rising temperatures. Furthermore, the timing aligns with the current heatwave conditions affecting large parts of KP. Therefore, the earlier start date for plains colleges makes practical sense given the intensity of summer heat in lower-elevation areas.
However, the vacation announcement comes with an important condition. Academic activities linked to examinations and ongoing four-year BS degree programmes will continue according to approved semester schedules. Furthermore, all exams scheduled during the vacation period will proceed as planned. Students must appear for exams according to the announced timetable regardless of the holiday. Therefore, a summer break does not mean a break from academic responsibilities for everyone.
Institutions received directives to ensure completion of academic requirements without disruption. Furthermore, the department made clear that examination schedules take precedence over the holiday calendar. Therefore, students and faculty must plan around both the vacation period and any remaining exam commitments.
Pakistan’s education sector frequently adjusts academic calendars during extreme weather periods. Still, maintaining exam continuity alongside the holiday announcement reflects a careful balance between student welfare and academic progress. Finally, for KP’s college and university students, summer 2026 offers a genuine break — as long as they keep their exam dates marked on the calendar.
