Sindh Senior Minister and Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon announced plans to introduce more electric vehicles and double decker buses in Karachi. The provincial government is moving to expand public transport services across the city. Consequently, Karachi to get new EV and double decker buses as part of this push.
The announcement came during a meeting of the Transport and Mass Transit Department chaired by Sharjeel Memon. Transport Secretary Asad Zamin, Sindh Mass Transit Authority Managing Director Saleemullah Odho, and other senior officials attended the session.
The meeting reviewed several key projects during the session. Officials discussed new routes for the People’s Bus Service, distribution of Pink EV Scooties for women, and the EV taxi service. They also reviewed ongoing and proposed mass transit projects across Sindh province.
Sharjeel Memon made several important announcements at the meeting. He said the Sindh government would purchase an additional 1,000 Pink EV Scooties for women. He added that new EV buses and double decker buses would also come to Karachi.
These vehicles will improve urban transport facilities for the city’s residents. Therefore, Karachi to get new EV and double decker buses to serve thousands of daily commuters.
The minister said the government had decided to launch intercity People’s Bus Service routes. This will further expand the province’s mass transit network beyond major cities.
Under the new plan, routes between Khairpur and Rohri will begin operations next week. The route between Khairpur and Ranipur will also launch next week.
He added that intercity bus services would soon launch in several other districts. These include Larkana, Dadu, Sehwan, Hyderabad, Sanghar, and other districts of Sindh. The expansion aims to connect more communities to reliable public transport.
