The Pakistan Freelancers Association issued a strong warning today. PAFLA urged the government and internet service providers to ensure uninterrupted connectivity nationwide. Reliable high speed internet for freelancers is essential for economic stability, the association emphasized. Persistent digital challenges are affecting workers’ ability to meet international demands. PAFLA Chairman Ibrahim Amin said slow speeds are significantly impacting freelancers and gig workers across the country. Reduced productivity has harmed the global ranking and reputation of Pakistani freelancers.
The situation keeps worsening each month. Frequent power outages combine with internet disruptions to create impossible working conditions. High speed internet for freelancers would solve many of these problems, but connectivity remains unreliable. Workers in ride-hailing and food delivery services also report declining earnings. Delays make it harder to complete tasks on time. Recent submarine cable repair work negatively affected internet speed and quality across Pakistan. PAFLA called on the government to introduce satellite internet solutions as an alternative backup.
Pakistan currently has more than 2.3 million freelancers. The Asian Development Bank ranks the country among the global leaders in freelancing. Despite ongoing connectivity issues, freelancers have contributed $800 million in foreign exchange. High speed internet for freelancers would unlock even greater potential. PAFLA noted that government initiatives have played a key role in training new freelancers and expanding the sector. But training means nothing without reliable connectivity to serve international clients.
Freelancers and content creators hope that 5G technology will improve productivity. Until then, PAFLA demands immediate action. Satellite backup cannot wait.
