Empowering the Streets: Sindh Govt Hands Over 300 Pink E-Scooters on Women’s Day

The Government of Sindh has officially hit a major milestone in its mission to revolutionize female mobility. On International Women’s Day (March 8, 2026), Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari led a ceremony in Karachi to distribute 300 pink electric scooters to selected female students and working professionals.

This initiative, managed by the Sindh Mass Transit Authority (SMTA), aims to provide safe, independent, and cost-effective transportation. By shifting to electric vehicles, the government is helping women bypass rising petrol costs while promoting a greener environment.

This video provides a news report on the launch of the Pink EV Scooter initiative, offering visual context to the distribution ceremony and the government’s goals.

Key Highlights of the Scheme:

  • Massive Scale: While the initial phase distributed 300 units, the government has announced an ambitious long-term goal to provide up to five million scooties to women across the province.
  • Strict Eligibility: To ensure the scooters reach those who truly need them for daily commutes, applicants must:
    • Be a permanent resident of Sindh.
    • Be a student or a working woman.
    • Possess a valid driving license (motorcycle or car).
    • Commit to not selling or subletting the vehicle for at least 7 years.
  • Comprehensive Support: Winners don’t just get a scooter; the program includes free riding training by lady instructors and road safety certification.
  • Transparency: Selection is conducted via a transparent computerized balloting process held in the presence of the media to ensure merit-based distribution.

This program follows the successful launch of the “Pink Bus” service and signals a major shift toward making Sindh’s urban centers more inclusive for women.
