Neelum Valley cloudburst

A powerful Neelum Valley cloudburst triggered flash floods that caused widespread damage to homes, shops, roads, and public infrastructure. Local authorities said heavy rainfall led to a sudden surge in streams, affecting several areas in Neelum Valley and Kaghan. Officials are continuing damage assessments while monitoring the situation.

According to the Deputy Commissioner, a cloudburst struck the Kattha Piran stream in Neelum Valley. The resulting flash flood swept away six houses and 25 shops. Residents also reported significant damage to nearby properties as floodwaters moved rapidly through the area.

The flooding also washed away three vehicles and 11 motorcycles. In addition, the main road and a connecting bridge in Kattha Piran were destroyed, leaving many residents facing transportation and communication difficulties. Emergency teams have started efforts to restore access.

Authorities said the flood damaged dozens of residential buildings, while crops, orchards, bridges, and electricity infrastructure also suffered heavy losses. Many local residents reportedly lost livestock after strong floodwaters swept through affected communities.

Officials confirmed that no casualties have been reported so far. Rescue and local administration teams remain on alert as they continue to inspect affected areas and provide assistance where needed.

Heavy rainfall also caused flash floods in Kaghan Valley. The Deputy Commissioner said overflowing streams washed away three connecting bridges in Kaghan after water levels rose rapidly following intense rainfall.

The Neelum Valley cloudburst and flooding in Kaghan have once again highlighted the growing risks of extreme weather during the monsoon season. Authorities have advised residents living near rivers and streams to remain cautious and follow official safety instructions as more rainfall is expected.
