Banks Open Late Across Pakistan After FBR Makes Request

banks open late

Commercial banks across Pakistan will keep their doors open well past normal hours on Wednesday, September 30, 2026. Branches will stay operational until 10 PM to help citizens clear government duties and taxes over the counter. The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) requested the arrangement to help taxpayers meet their payment obligations. Therefore, with banks open late, last-minute payers get a fair chance to settle their dues.

The move aims to support taxpayers who still need to settle their dues before the day ends. Banks have also been advised to keep relevant branches open for as long as necessary. That step supports the special clearing of government transactions that the National Institutional Facilitation Technologies (NIFT) conducts. Moreover, this clearing process needs branches to remain available until the work is complete.

Banks meanwhile have not restricted the facility to physical branches alone. Commercial banks must further ensure uninterrupted availability of digital payment channels. These channels include internet banking, mobile applications, ATMs and other online platforms. Additionally, customers who prefer to avoid queues can pay from home through these services.

Those who want to pay in person, however, will find branches ready until late evening. Digital channels also offer busy customers a convenient alternative to visiting a branch. Instead of rushing, taxpayers can now spread their payments across a longer window. Government revenue collection depends heavily on smooth payment systems, so uninterrupted online access remains important.

The extended schedule matters because tax deadlines often bring heavy crowds to bank counters. However, a longer working day gives taxpayers breathing room and reduces the risk of missed payments. The arrangement furthermore covers both over-the-counter and digital payment of government duties and taxes. Taxpayers should therefore plan their transactions ahead to avoid unnecessary delays.

Taxpayers with pending payments should not wait any longer. Nothing in the announcement extends the arrangement beyond September 30, so customers should act on the day. Finally, with banks open late and digital services running, no taxpayer should struggle to complete payments on time.
