The Healthcare Devices Association of Pakistan has raised serious concerns over illegal syringe manufacturing. Authorities have discovered syringes falsely labelled as auto-disable despite being fully reusable. Consequently, banned reusable syringes are spreading across the country through unauthorized channels. The association warned that these practices directly endanger lives. They contribute to the transmission of infectious diseases among vulnerable people, including children.
HDAP stated that these are not merely regulatory violations. These acts have directly contributed to the spread of HIV and other blood-borne infections. Therefore, banned reusable syringes pose a growing public health risk that demands immediate action. The association strongly condemned the illegal production, import, distribution, and use of these devices. Continued use of unsafe syringes significantly increases the risk of Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, and HIV.
HDAP urged federal and provincial authorities to move beyond reactive actions. They must ensure sustained enforcement against all involved parties. This includes manufacturers, importers, distributors, and healthcare providers using banned products. The association warned that banned reusable syringes remain widely available despite existing regulations. Weak enforcement allows these dangerous products to reach vulnerable patients.
HDAP reaffirmed its commitment to patient safety. The association will continue promoting internationally compliant, high-quality healthcare products. It will collaborate with government institutions and healthcare stakeholders to strengthen market surveillance. The goal is to encourage the use of approved auto-disable syringes across Pakistan. Without strict action, more lives will be at risk.
