Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra Camera Downgrade Leaked Ahead of Launch

Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra camera leaks point to a major rear camera reduction as a new Pro model enters the lineup

Samsung’s next flagship may arrive with fewer cameras than its predecessor. New leaks suggest the Galaxy S27 Ultra could drop from four rear cameras to three, marking a significant change for a lineup that has long defined itself through photography versatility. The Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra camera shake-up comes alongside reports of an entirely new fourth model — the Galaxy S27 Pro — joining the lineup. Moreover, tipster Ice Universe shared details on Weibo that paint a clearer picture of how these two models could differ.

Galaxy S27 Pro May Share Two Cameras With Ultra

According to Ice Universe, the Galaxy S27 Pro will use the same main and ultrawide cameras as the Galaxy S27 Ultra. Furthermore, both sensors are reportedly new across both models. However, the telephoto camera will differ between the two. The exact nature of that difference remains unclear for now. Therefore, the zoom capability could ultimately become the defining factor that separates the Pro from the Ultra.

Galaxy S27 Ultra May Use Three Rear Cameras

The Galaxy S27 Ultra’s rumored camera reduction is the bigger story. Samsung may remove the dedicated 3x telephoto camera and rely on a single telephoto shooter instead. Android Police described this as a major change for Samsung’s Ultra lineup if the leak proves accurate. Still, the Ultra will reportedly receive entirely new sensors for both its main and ultrawide cameras. Therefore, fewer cameras does not necessarily mean worse photography — though enthusiasts will debate that point fiercely.

Telephoto Camera Could Be the Main Difference

Notebookcheck reports that the Galaxy S27 Pro and Galaxy S27 Ultra will share the same new main and ultrawide sensors. The zoom camera, however, could be where Samsung draws the line between the two models. Furthermore, the smaller physical size of the Galaxy S27 Pro may explain the different telephoto hardware. A smaller sensor or a different zoom configuration seems likely, though nothing is confirmed yet.

Rumors Still Need Caution

Samsung has not confirmed the Galaxy S27 Pro or any camera specifications for the Galaxy S27 series. Additionally, the lineup remains far from its launch window, and early hardware leaks frequently change before a product reaches consumers. Finally, what seems certain today may look very different by the time Samsung takes the stage to reveal its next Ultra flagship.
